    Ingredients

    • Little Smokies - use two packages for this recipe
    • Brown Sugar
    • Dry Mustard - Regular mustard can be used, though dry mustard is preferred
    • Tomato Soup
    • Vinegar - white vinegar is best

The crock pot does the blending of the ingredients and it can cook while you are working on other recipes.

Cooking the smokies ahead of time

There are two ways you can cook the BBQ Smokies. If the boiled hot dog texture doesn't bother you, simply add the smokies to the crock pot and pour over the ingredients and mix.

If you prefer to fry your hot dogs over boil them, I would put a little butter in the bottom of a frying pan and fry up the smokies over medium heat for 4-5 minutes just to get a little crisp to them before you add them to the crock pot. The choice is yours.

    Crock pot verses stove top

You can make these on the stove top, but I preferred to use my crock pot. I have the perfect sized crock pot for these smokies as well as for the Best Baked Beans. It is smaller than the large crock pots but larger than a dip sized crock pot. Love it for these occasions. Actually, I think I have had mine for 10+ years!

To cook on the stove top (the BBQ ingredients not frying the smokies as mentioned above), just place all ingredients in a large pot and cook on medium for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

These easy BBQ little smokies would be great to have with an evening meal as well. You could have them as a main dish or serve them as a side, perhaps with Roast Beef or Pizza Burger.

Be sure to add or tweak this recipe to your family's tastes. That is why I love recipes like this. If you want a sweeter sauce, add more brown sugar. If you want a smoky flavor, add some cumin. Or, if you want a little kick, as my husband always does, add some hot sauce. The original recipe is great, but adding different flavors is wonderful as well!

    Serve

Once the smokies are heated through and the BBQ sauce flavors have mingled, you can serve! You can leave them in the crock pot to serve or in a bowl. Enjoy these BBQ Smokies for the big game, a picnic, Memorial Day or the 4th of July! Enjoy!

A 10.75 oz can of tomato soup. (Or around that measurement!) I updated the post to reflect that. Enjoy!
