Swiss Steak on a white plate with green peppers.

Swiss Steak is a classic dinner recipe with only 3 main ingredients. This steak can be made in the crock pot and cook all day while you are gone. Serve over rice, noodles or mashed potatoes!

This tomato and green pepper based recipe is simple, flavorful and so easy to make in the Crock Pot. Swiss Steak has longtime been a favorite of ours and I am sure it will be yours as well! The steak just falls apart in your mouth and the savory flavors are perfect.

Crock pot meals are so important for busy days and evenings. It is great to prepare the meal ahead of time so it is ready when you walk in the door. Swiss steak does just that. So do these other Crock pot meals like Crock Pot Beef Stew and Crock Pot BBQ Meatballs. Delicious!

    Ingredients

    • round steak
    • green peppers
    • tomato sauce
    • dried onions
    • salt/pepper
round steak, green peppers and tomato sauce.

This recipe is enough for three servings. It can easily be doubled for larger serving sizes.

    Tomato sauce

Tomato sauce is the classic way to make this steak recipe. It is the way I only make it as I do love the flavors. However, if you would prefer, you can use half tomato sauce and half beef broth to add a more beef flavor.

    The process

This dinner recipe is a "put everything in the crock pot and walk away" type of meal. The absolute best, in my opinion! Although, many recipes aren't cooked in a crock pot of course.

The steak, tomato sauce, green peppers and spices all come together in the crock pot. The crock pot will stay on high and cook the steak for 6 hours if the steak is frozen.

    FAQ

How can I serve this Swiss Steak?

Swiss steak can be served over rice, noodles or over mashed potatoes. It is also great on a crusty roll.

Can I use other peppers such as red or yellow?

I really don't recommend using sweet peppers as the green peppers add the flavors needed to bring the recipe to life.

    Can I use frozen steak?

Yes! Just be sure to cook the steak completely. The meat should have an internal temperature of 145 degrees to be done. The meat should fall apart while shredded.

    Leftovers

To store leftovers, after eating, place the leftover steak in an airtight container for up to three days.
