Types of pork
There are a few different types of pork roasts out there and for this recipe, we used a pork loin. There is also pork roast, pork belly or leg. For more information on types of pork, Pork Cuts, A Visual Guide is helpful. For Pork Carnitas, use a pork butt.
Cooking the slow cooker pulled pork
To make this simple slow cooker supper recipe, simply put the pork loin in the bottom of a crock pot. Then, top the pork with the rest of the ingredients.
Cover the crock pot and turn the temperature on high. It will cook for 6-7 hours.
Temperature setting
The temperature of the crock pot depends on if the meat is fresh or frozen. You can use a frozen or thawed pork loin, either will cook well but the frozen will take longer.
I usually cook the pork on high for 7-8 hours if the pork is frozen and 6 hours if it is fresh. The internal temperature of the pork should be 190 degrees and pull apart easily.
What can I serve this with?
You can eat this with a crusty bread for a sandwich or with cheesy buttered noodles. I also think eating it over rice is delicious. The ultimate? Try putting this on top of tortilla chips with melted cheese.
Storage/leftovers
The storage of leftover pulled pork should be in an airtight container kept in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. I don't recommend keeping the leftovers in the crockpot. It is best to store them in another container.

Ingredients
- 3½ lbs pork loin frozen
- 1 ½ cup beef broth
- 3 teaspoon salt
- 3 teaspoon black pepper
- 3 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 package dry brown gravy mix
Instructions
- Place frozen pork loin in the crock pot.
- Sprinkle salt, pepper, garlic powder and dry brown gravy mix on top of pork.
- Pour beef broth on top and around the pork.
- Cover and cook on high for 6 hours.
- Shred meat with forks and let cook 1 hour more, resting in the juices.
- Serve.
Notes
- This recipe is based on a frozen pork loin. A thawed pork loin will cook for a shorter period of time, about 6 hours.
- If you are waiting to serve the pork and afraid the meat will dry out, you can pour ½ cup of 7-UP on the pork. That will help the pork not to dry out.
