Apple Cider Floats is the perfect fall treat. Warm apple cider made in the crock pot with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. Want caramel with it? It adds to the warm flavor of the apple cider and ice cream. A fun and delicious fall treat.
With fall in the air, one always thinks about bonfires, marshmallows and S'more Desserts. I don't know about you, but apple cider always tops my list as well. Apple recipes are a favorite around here and apples come in season this time of year. Apple Cider Floats will make a great addition to your fall recipe collection.
What is even better than warm apple cider while sitting by a fire? Sweet apple cider with cinnamon and oranges and it cooks in the crock pot. It can stay there all day for when you have guests or it can cook up quickly for a last minute gathering.
Ingredients
- apple cider
- cinnamon
- orange juice
- orange slices
- vanilla ice cream
- caramel topping (optional)
Cranberry juice is also another popular ingredient to apple cider and I have added it a lot to my homemade apple cider recipe. If you want to, you could add a little cranberry juice to balance the sweet out.
The orange slices are a must in my opinion as they add that pop of color to the cider while it is cooking and being served. Also, have you ever eaten an orange slice after it has cooked in a pot of apple cider?
Yes, totally delicious.
I have made apple cider with apple juice before and you can use apple juice if that is what you have an hand. Using actual apple cider adds that pop of flavor and it adds a depth to this fall drink recipe.
The process
This recipe is quite simple to make. It is a drop in a crock pot and walk away type of recipe. (My favorite!)
The apple cider (the entire gallon) will be used and poured into the crock pot. Then add the orange juice, cinnamon and orange slices.
Then it is time to warm it up. Let me tell you, it makes your home smell warm and fall like.
Warming up the cider
Apple cider warming up in the crock pot doesn't take a long time, but if you have time, the longer you let is simmer the more the flavors blend together. Here is a simple guide:
If the crock pot is on high, the cider should be warmed up for about 2 hours.
If the crock pot is on low, about 4 hours.
Also, when the apple cider is done warming up, move the crock pot temperature to warm to let it simmer and you can drink on it all night!
Making the apple cider floats
After the cider flavors are all blended together and yummy, serve the cider in coffee mugs or heat proof glasses. Then put a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top of the apple cider. If desired, drizzle caramel on top.
Oh yes.
FAQ
Sure! I thought about using an apple pie ice cream but stuck with the vanilla.
Yes. Whatever apple cider you don't use, put in the fridge in a jug. The cider can remain cold for a fun drink or you can warm it up again.
Yes you can! It would be even more eye catching.
