    Sweet and delicious Homemade Apple Bread with sweet apples throughout and a crunchy cinnamon sugar topping makes one delicious addition to your lunch or snack. In fact, this bread would pair well with a breakfast or a brunch.

    Homemade Apple Bread is a soft and flavorful bread that just says fall recipe. When apples are in season, this homemade bread recipe will be a must make in your house. Best part, it is so easy to make!

    Making sweet breads is pretty easy. No yeast is involved so there is no rise time. It's like muffins but in a loaf pan. Blueberry streusel bread and pumpkin bread are examples of a sweet bread.

    Ingredients

    • flour - all purpose
    • egg
    • sugar
    • milk - 1 or 2%, almond milk can also be used
    • oil - vegetable oil
    • vanilla
    • salt
    • baking powder
    • apple
    • flour - for the topping
    • sugar - for the topping
    • butter - for the topping
    • cinnamon - for the topping

    Types of apples

    It is important to choose the right kind of apple for your apple breads and desserts. A softer apple is better for homemade applesauce. A firmer apple is better for pies and baked apples. A firmer apple will hold up better while baking.

    Here is a guide for which apples to use for baking and sauce.

    This fall apple bread recipe is best with a granny smith or I used a pink lady apple. Pink Lady Apples hold up well while baking and are also a little more tart. They will balance out the sweetness of the bread well.

    This bread recipe can have as many apples as you would like. As you can see, I didn't add a lot of apples for a reason. One reason is because my husband doesn't like a lot of apples in his bread. If you want an apple laced bread, feel free to add another cup (or two!). It is delicious either way.

    The apples will need to be peeled and sliced. They will also need to be coated in a little bit of flour to keep them from sinking to the bottom of the loaf. This way the apples stay evenly distributed throughout the bread.

    The cinnamon topping

    The topping is a cinnamon, sugar, flour and butter mixture. It is spread on top of the uncooked bread carefully and then baked. It ends up being like a crust on top of the bread.

    You could also swirl the topping in if you want to to make an apple swirl bread.

    Bake

    Bake this bread at 375 degrees for 45 minutes or until a toothpick or knife comes out clean.

    FAQ

    Can I use almond milk in this apple bread recipe?

    Yes you can. You can replace the regular milk with almond milk.

    Can I use gluten free flour?

    Yes you can! Substitute measure for measure flour gluten free flour for the all purpose flour.

    Can I add some cinnamon to the batter before baking?

    Yes you can! Cinnamon in the bread would taste great!

    Equipment

    • 1 mixing bowl

    Ingredients

    • 1 egg
    • ¾ cup sugar
    • 1 cup milk or almond milk
    • ¼ cup vegetable oil
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla
    • 3 cups all purpose flour
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 2 ½ teaspoon baking powder
    • 1 ½ cups apple washed, peeled and chopped

    For The Topping

    • ¼ cup all purpose flour
    • ½ cup sugar
    • 3 T butter melted
    • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

    Instructions

    • Preheat oven to 375℉ and grease a 9 inch loaf pan.
    • Mix the egg and sugar together in a large bowl.
    • Stir in the milk, oil and vanilla.
    • Stir in 3 cups of flour, salt and baking powder.
    • Fold in the apples. Spread the batter evenly in a greased loaf pan.
    • Mix the topping ingredients together in a small bowl.
    • Spread over the apple batter.
    • Bake at a 375℉ oven for 45 minutes until the bread tests done with a toothpick or butter knife.
    • Remove from oven and let cool on a cooling rack in the pan for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, carefully remove from the pan using a knife to loosen the edges and turn onto a cooling rack.
    • Let cool completely then slice and serve.
