I have to give a shout out to the original creator of this recipe, Connie. She is a dear friend from our church and brings these potatoes to every church potluck and event. My children call these potatoes "Connie's Potatoes" and make a beeline for them every time. Who am I kidding, my husband does too!
Potatoes are such a staple on any menu aren't they? Whether they are Crock Pot Mashed Potatoes or Funeral Potatoes, potatoes pair well with so many main dishes like Venison Roast and Meatloaf.
Ingredients
- instant potatoes - any brand will do
- water
- butter - can use margarine
- salt
- garlic powder
- milk - whole or 2% preferred
- Philadelphia cream cheese - must be Philadelphia
- French onion dip - Prairie Farms is our favorite, flavor-wise, but any brand will do

Why brands matter
Everyone has different tastes so everyone has a different opinion of what has the best flavor. That said, I have yet to find a cream cheese brand as good as Philadelphia. Philadelphia just has a zing to it that lends itself well to most recipes. Store brands just do not quite have that flavor.
Prairie Farms French Onion Dip is another one. The other brands are good, but it may be because of the area we grew up in that Prairie Farms seems better to us. However, it really is personal preference in this recipe.
Tips
- Make sure you follow the directions in the order listed. It is almost like a science experiment and the ingredients really need to go in the order listed.
- Put the potato flakes in a little at a time then stir. They will mix in easier if you do it a little at a time.
- The potatoes will need to be baked for 30 minutes after coming together on the stove, so plan accordingly.
- These potatoes are GREAT to make ahead of time. After putting them together on the stove, place them in the baking pan, cover and put them in the refrigerator. They are perfect to make the night before.

Bake
The party mashed potatoes will bake in the oven at 375 degrees for 30 minutes. If you refrigerate them and make them the night before, they will need to bake longer to heat through, approximately 45-50 minutes.

Enjoy these potatoes that are great for supper or for a party! They are creamy, delicious and everyone will be wanting the recipe!
