Spicy cheese dip with the salty pretzel bites is a good combination!

Need an appetizer recipe? This Velveeta cheese dip is a great appetizer addition for the parties or gatherings you have.

Anybody else a fan of pretzel bites? Oh my, they are so good. They are soft on the inside, a slight firmness on the outside and coated in salt.

The bites also have a hint of butter. I mean, really, enough said.

Well, the cheese sauce you dip in it is just a bonus for a warm pretzel because the pretzel could really stand alone. Have you ever made homemade pretzels before? If you want to, here is a homemade pretzel recipe.

    Ingredients

    • Velveeta cheese
    • diced tomatoes with chili's
    • ground beef (cooked)
    • diced onions

Only four ingredients to this dip and it is made in a crock pot. The best kind of crock pot to use for a dip of this size is a small crock pot. I use my small crock pot often and it is perfect for food like this.

    Adding and Melting

Block of Velveeta cheese in a crock pot.
This dip starts with Velveeta cheese.

To make this cheese sauce, you take Velveeta cheese and place it in a crock pot. Then you add the canned diced tomatoes, onions and cooked ground beef.

It is very important to cook the ground beef first as the dip doesn't take that long to cook and the ground beef wouldn't have enough time to cook thoroughly while the dip is cooking.

    Why ground beef?

So, why would I add ground beef to cheese dipping sauce? Because it is good, that is why. You know the pretzel buns they have for hamburgers or ham sandwiches?

Same thought here, but with a dip. The pretzel pairs nicely with the cheese and the hamburger adds depth and flavor. So good.

How long does the cheese dip take to cook?

It really depends on your crock pot or the size of crock pot. The one I have takes about 1 hour to heat all the way through on high. Low would take about 1 ½ hours.

It isn't a long process as this type of cheese is made for melting.

    FAQ

Where did you buy the pretzel bites?

I bought them at Walmart in the bread section. There is a large bag or a smaller bag.

What type of Velveeta did you buy?

It is the original Velveeta, though the 2% milk one would work too. I do not advise buying a generic version of cheese. I don't think it melts as smoothly or well as Velveeta.

How do I store the leftover cheese?

The leftover cheese can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge until you want to reheat it. It will last in the fridge for 3 days.

How should we reheat the cheese?

You can reheat the cheese in a microwave safe bowl for 45 seconds, stirring afterwards then in 30 second intervals.

    Pin for later!
