    Ingredients

    • chocolate chips - semi-sweet
    • unsweetened chocolate - any brand
    • sweetened condensed milk - any brand
    • vanilla extract - I use our homemade vanilla
    fudge ingredients.

    Melting the chocolate

Both the unsweetened chocolate and the chocolate chips can be melted together in the microwave. They can be melted on the stove, but I would recommend using a double boiler technique for the melted so the chocolate won't burn.

Using the microwave, the chocolate is best melted slowly. Don't let the chocolate melt without stirring it in between intervals. That will help prevent burning.

Set the microwave for 1 minute, stir, then melt another 30 seconds. The repeat until completely melted and that is how you will have perfectly melted and not burned chocolate.

Adding the condensed milk and vanilla

    melted chocolate with condensed milk.

As you stir the melted chocolate, condensed milk and vanilla, the mixture will become thicker. That is okay and will help it set up to make the fudge.

    Tips

    • Using parchment paper on the bottom of the loaf pan or square pan will make it easier to remove the fudge and cut it into squares
    • Adding a pinch of salt is up to you. It can help cut a little of the sweetness if you desire.
    • Any brand of unsweetened chocolate bar will work. However, Hershey chocolate chips melt the best. Other brands don't melt as well.

    Add-ins

    • marshmallow cream - mix the cream into the chocolate mixture.
    • colored sprinkles - just sprinkle on top of the fudge.
    • pecans or walnuts - mix into the chocolate fudge before spreading or sprinkle on top.
