    Ingredients

    • white cake mix - any brand cake mix will do
    • egg
    • margarine - butter also works
    • cream cheese - Philadelphia cream cheese, store brand isn't as good
    • vanilla
    • M&M candies

    Margarine and cream cheese

It is important to let the margarine and cream cheese sit out on the counter for about 15 minutes before starting to make these cookies. The margarine and cream cheese is much easier to cream together if they are softened. They should not be melted, but softened is important.

    Variations

    • I like using a white cake mix for these Christmas cake mix cookies. However, a yellow cake mix can be used. However do note the color of the white cake mix is slightly better for these cookies.
    • Instead of M&M's, you can add other chocolate candy pieces or Christmas sprinkles.

    Tip

When the cookie dough is rolled into balls, take a glass or cup and dip it into powdered sugar then press lightly onto the dough. The dough won't flatten enough while baking on its own so it needs to be encouraged to do so.

    Bake

Bake these cookies at 375 degrees for 7 minutes. Then, pull the cookies out and place M&M's carefully on top. Bake for another 3-4 minutes or until cookies are firm.

After baking, remove from cookie sheet and let cool completely on a cooling rack.

    Storage

Store the cooled cookies in an airtight container on the counter, out of sunlight.

    Equipment

    • 1 mixing bowl
    • 2 cookie sheets
    • 1 cookie scoop

    Ingredients

    • 1 box white cake mix
    • ½ cup margarine softened
    • 8 oz cream cheese softened
    • 1 egg
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla
    • ½ cup M&M's

    Instructions

    • Preheat oven to 375℉.
    • In a large mixing bowl, cream together margarine and cream cheese. You can use a spoon or hand mixer.
    • Mix in egg and vanilla until just blended.
    • Using a spoon, mix in the cake mix. The batter will be thick.
    • Using cookie scoop, or your hands (batter will be sticky, so if using your hands, put a little powdered sugar on your hands first). Roll balls out of the dough and place on a cookie sheet.
    • Using a cup or glass dipped in powdered sugar, flatten the cookie dough balls slightly.
    • Bake for 7 minutes. Take the cookies out of the oven and carefully place M&M's on top of the cookies.
    • Return to oven and bake for 3 minutes more or until cookies are firm.
    • Remove from oven and let cookies sit for 3 minutes. Remove from cookie sheet with spatula and place on a cooling rack.
    • Cool completely. Serve.

    Notes

    1. You can add the M&M's directly to the batter before you place the dough on the cookie sheet if you prefer and skip adding them during baking. It is up to you.
    2. Instead of M&M's, Christmas sprinkles can be added.
