Pizza Casserole with Ravioli is a new combination between ravioli casserole and pizza bake. Delicious way to combine a classic favorite and add a new twist. This recipe is completely adaptable to your family's tastes.
This is what happens when I wanted something a little different for supper and had ravioli sitting in the freezer just waiting to be used.
Pizza Casserole with Ravioli is rich with cheeses, flavored with Italian seasoning and garlic and has everyone's favorite, the pepperoni. Of course, if you would want to, you could add green pepper, mushrooms or any vegetable you would like. As you know, vegetables are a strongly discouraged by my meatatarian husband, however he is getting better.
Is this like a pizza bake?
This pizza casserole is a mix between Pizza Bake and Ravioli Casserole. I wanted to make pizza bake but as I mentioned, the ravioli was calling my name. As I was wondering if I could mix the two dishes, I realized ravioli has sausage in it and sausage goes great with pizza.
The pizza casserole uses pizza sauce verses spaghetti sauce, ravioli verses pasta shells, but it uses ricotta cheese, mozzarella cheese and all of your pizza favorites. We like pepperoni on our pizza so we added that.
How should we store this casserole?
If you have any left, I would store it in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days. You can just scoop up any leftovers and put it in a dish. However, you may want to get a larger dish so the casserole can stay in tact while store. It helps with an equal amount of cheese distribution. I do not recommend freezing this casserole. You can make it ahead of time and place it in the refrigerator in the morning to cook that evening for supper.
You can serve this great casserole with a side of broccoli cauliflower ranch salad. A poppy seed fruit salad or applesauce would be great as well.

You don’t say what size bags of raviolis or pepperonis. My store carries several sizes. Fry hamburger and season with seasoning. WHAT SEASONING? Then you say place FROZEN raviolis on the bottom and later say add another layer. Do I try to divide the frozen raviolis? This recipe is quite confusing to say the least.

I am so sorry you had trouble with this recipe! Let me see if I can help. The seasonings are listed in the recipe. I typically say salt and pepper to taste (as long as it truly is a personal preference and doesn't effect the recipe too much) because everyone has their own taste when it comes to how much salt to add. My mom would add a pinch and say that is too much and I add, well, more than a pinch. :-)
I updated the ravioli bag size in the recipe. I believe in the recipe, I will double check, I state that you place half of the ravioli on the bottom, then add the other half. That means half the bag of ravioli. Again, sorry if you were confused on that! I do hope that helps. I have had several comments that they enjoyed this recipe so hopefully your family will too.

Hi , what can I substitute for the ricotta? If there is anything
Kim
Hello! Yes, you can substitute cottage cheese if you would like. I will do this sometimes if it is what I have on hand (because cottage cheese was on sale!).
darla
Do you add the egg to cottage cheese or leave it out?
Kim
Yes, I do add it!

Sounds like a good casserole, but will make some very necessary changes as I'm not an eater of pig meat in any form whatsoever. Beef will work just fine, with turkey pepperoni in place of regular (pork laden) pepperoni, and I do believe will have wonderful flavor results.

To each his own, right? :-) I always tweak recipes to please my rather picky hubby. I hope you enjoy the casserole. It is a favorite here.

Cook hamburger until no longer brown in frying pan.
Small error in the directions but I thought it was funny because I had said the same thing the last time I browned hamburger.
Kim
Ha! Thanks for the heads up. I will change it. Whoops! ;-)

Can you prepare a day ahead and bake the next day ?
Kim
Yes you can! :-)
Faith
I didn't know how much of the pizza sauce to use but bought 2- 24 oz. jars, do I use both of them?? Please let me know because I'm making this for my Bunco group on Friday.. Thanks
Sarah
I'm going to adjust the recipe! Sorry about that. I used two 14 oz jars. If your jars are 24 oz, I would just use one and that should work fine. I hope you enjoy it!!
Faith
Thanks that does make a difference and glad I got a reply from you so I didn't use two jars. Looks good and I'll let you know if they like it.. Thanks again

Saw this Pizza Casserole with Ravioli recipe. I can't eat tomatoes or tomato sauces.
Do you think this would be ok with Alfredo sauce? If you have any recipes with alfredo sauce I would love to check them out!!! Thanks - I had my gall bladder removed Oct 2014 and tomatoes make me hurt.
Sarah
I don't know if it would or not. Give it a try and let me know what you think. I don't have any recipes with Alfredo sauce as my family isn't a big fan. Maybe we should try!
