Homemade Hamburger Helper Beef Pasta made in one pot and can be made in a hurry! So delicious and best of all, YOU know what ingredients you are feeding your family. This supper recipe only has four ingredients.
Easy, simple recipes are all the rage right now in my house. Suppers are on the run but I so much want to eat meals as a family. This Homemade Hamburger Helper Beef Pasta is made in ONE POT, 4 ingredients and best of all, it's not from a box.
Well, I guess a pasta box is involved, but stick with me here. This copycat beef pasta recipe will quickly become a busy night favorite.
Ingredients
- Hamburger
- Pasta
- Beef Broth
- Brown gravy mix
The pasta can be any shape, though I feel the best is the Rotini pasta. I think it holds its shape well in this dish.
Don't let that stop you from making this hamburger recipe if you don't have Rotini pasta. Any pasta will work.
To make this easy and simple supper recipe with ground beef and pasta, you simply need a pot (I like using ones like this for my one pot meals) and the four ingredients.
Of course, every meal needs a great dessert, so these Simple Lime Bars would be delightful to add to the meal. Just sayin'.
One pan instructions
Take ground beef and cook until no longer pink. Drain the grease. Be sure not to skip that step or the dish will be too greasy. Cooking the entire recipe in the pan is great on saving on dishes, however, drain the grease.
Next, add beef broth and bring to a boil. Be sure to not add the pasta until the beef broth is boiling. You don't want mushy pasta.
Tips
- After you add the pasta, you need to reduce the heat from high to medium. The liquid will start to simmer. There is no need to cover the pan, though be sure to stir often.
- Stirring often will keep the pasta from sticking to the bottom of the pan and help to incorporate the broth over all the pasta.
- The pasta will soften and liquid will thicken when you add the gravy packet. The gravy packet also adds such a great flavor.
FAQ
If you want to add salt and pepper, you certainly can. However, the gravy packet and beef broth adds plenty of sodium and flavoring without really needing to add any more. Of course, that is completely up to your tastes.
If you have any leftovers, you can put them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 36 hours.
That's it! All you need is four ingredients and about 20-30 minutes. If the hamburger is already in your freezer, which I strongly recommend having already made hamburger in the freezer, then it will take even less time. Enjoy!

After reading the posts I added 2 cups of water with a Tbsp of “Better than Bullion” dissolved in it. I did not have dry bullion on hand but this worked well. I also did not have a gravy packet but 1/8 cup of flour with 1/4 tsp each of ground black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder were enough to thicken the sauce and add some flavor. We eat a lot of the boxed HH Beef Pasta and this compares well to that- we did not notice the lack of milk at all, which is good because I don’t keep a lot of milk on hand. Overall an easy and inexpensive one-skillet meal that uses items I have on hand (with noted substitutions).

1 lb. of pasta is a lot for only 4 c. of broth. After this was done, I had to add at least 1.5 additional c. of broth to thin it out (all I had in the refrigerator), and still had to add some water--it was a pasta blob before that, and will soak up even more liquid the longer it sits. While this had a very good flavor, next time I'll use 2 boxes (8c) broth and 2 pkgs. brown gravy mix. Only changes made were I added 1/2 lg. onion to ground beef while browning, and some frozen green peas to make it more of a one pot meal. To individual bowls I sprinkled some garlic and pepper. It was really good.

Made this today. Tastes just like boxed variety BEFORE they changed the recipe to add milk. My family likes this version much better. Would suggest saving a cup of the broth to stir the gravy mix in pot before adding to pan.

This turned out great and it's easy to make. Threw in some fresh mushrooms, which only made it better.

Mushrooms is a great idea! I would do that myself but my family isn't a fan. :-) Thank you for leaving a comment!

Delicious! I’ve prepared this just as the recipe calls for a few times now. And there’s never a bite left over! My family loves it.
