Easy layered 4th of July Jello Salad started out as something completely different. However, I didn't realize how long actual layers were going to take.
Quite frankly, I didn't have the time to wait for layers.
So what does one do when they don't have the time to cook something the way they thought? They improvise. And sometimes it turns out even better then the original plan.
How do you get the layers in this patriotic jello salad?
As mentioned above, I had high hopes of having those perfect jello salad layers. Like in this layered jello salad recipe.
Those layers take time. You have to chill each layer for a while before you can add the next one. Then the wait time starts all over again with the next layer. I started to do that then realized the clock was a'ticking.
I simply made each of the Jello mixes according to the package directions and poured it in separate bowls.
How long does it take for the jello to set up?
I left it overnight, but it can be set in 5 hours. Remember, the difference is I didn't have to babysit it. I poured the Jello in the pans and walked away.

Items used in this recipe:
Take Cherry Jello and Berry Blue Jello and make it according to package directions. Then pour in two different pans or bowls.
After it has set, cut squares or rectangles in the Jello.
Then start the layering. Start with the red Jello on the bottom of the clear bowl. A clear bowl works best because everyone can see the red, white and blue layers.
Add the whipping cream on top of the red Jello. Then add the blue Jello. Repeat the layers. Place in fridge until ready to serve.
How to make homemade whipping cream
You can use regular Cool Whip but I think homemade whipping cream tastes so good and it is so easy to make. Take a pint of whipping cream and place it in a bowl. Then using a Kitchen Aid Mixer or hand mixer, whip the cream until almost set. Then add ½ cup of powdered sugar and continue whipping until firm.
