Ingredients
- Berry Jello - it is the blue Jello
- Cherry Jello - or another red Jello like strawberry
- Cool Whip - Use Cool Whip, not store brand
Making the layers
Those layers take time. You have to chill each layer for a while before you can add the next one. Then the wait time starts all over again with the next layer.
I went with the blue first, followed by the red and will be topped with the white. Sprinkles are optional.
I simply made the Berry Jello first, then after the blue layer set up in the fridge, I made the cherry Jello.
How long does it take for the Jello to set up?
The red layer can be poured on top of the blue layer in about 2 hours or when the blue gelatin starts to become firm.
It is important not to make the cherry Jello until the blue has firmed enough. Otherwise you won't be able to pour the cherry Jello on top of the Berry Jello because it would have gelled.
Storage
Be sure to keep the Jello cups in the refrigerator or chilled while serving. A good way to do this at a picnic is in a cooler or with a cooling mat like this one.
Tips
- If you are in a hurry, instead of adding the 2 cups of water, add 1 ½ cups of water and about 10 ice cubes. That will help the chilling process go faster.
- The can of whipped cream works well for this, or a dollop of Cool Whip.
- Sprinkles are always fun and festive, but not necessary.
