    M&M and Oreos

Depending on where you live, finding red, white and blue M&M's may be difficult. They can also be more costly. So, here is an alternative: simply pick the red and blue M&M's out of a regular M&M bag. It works and only takes a little bit of time.

The Oreo cookies can be crushed completely into crumbs, or just crushed into chunks. We preferred the Oreos to be in chunks as it adds a nice crunch and flavor in the cookie.

    Mixing the batter

The cookie bar dough is simple to make and comes together easily. It also is only needs one mixing bowl. The Oreos and M&M's are added together at the end.

    To Bake

To bake these loaded cookie bars, be sure to put foil down in the pan first before spreading out the dough. If you aren't serving them to guests, then this step isn't necessary, but to have them come out of the pan neatly, using foil is a great idea.

Then the batter will just be spread on top of the foil, no cooking spray needed.

The bars will be baked at 350 for about 30-35 minutes or until a golden brown on top and cookie bars start to firm.

    FAQ

Can I add chocolate chips to these cookie bars?

Yes! Chocolate chips would work too!

Could I drizzle some frosting on top?

You can, it might make the cookie bars a bit too sweet, so it would be personal preference.

    How should I store leftovers?

Either keep the leftover bars in the pan and cover it with foil, or place the bars in an airtight container. They will last for up to three days.

    Freezing the bars

These loaded patriotic cookie bars freeze well! After baking, slice into squares then place in an airtight zippered freezer bag. They will stay good for up to 2 months.
