Ingredients
- butter - use real butter for this, not margarine
- powdered sugar
- milk - can use almond milk
- vanilla
- cocoa

Frosting tips
- This frosting is not for piping, only spreading. If you try to make flowers out of this chocolate frosting, it will not turn out well. (But it spreads great!)
- Make sure to let the butter soften slightly. If you let it soften too much, it won't be as firm as you need for the frosting. If you don't let it soften enough, the butter won't mix well. About 20 minutes on the counter at room temperature works well.
- Vanilla is not needed but appreciated. The vanilla compliments the chocolate quite nicely.
Using a mixer
A mixer is needed when making frosting. Whether it is a handheld mixer or a stand mixer, it helps whip together the ingredients well. The butter especially when being blended into the powdered sugar can be a task. The mixer makes short work of it.
