Who needs a boxed mix? This homemade chili mac will taste better than any prepackaged meal. Make it in under 30 minutes too!
Homemade Chili Mac was an after church throw together meal. Sometimes my best meals are the “throw together” kind. I mean, when your in a pinch to get lunch on the table, who knows what may come out of the kitchen.
In fact, the kids kept walking by asking what was for lunch and my response was: I don’t know, I’ll let you know when it is on the table.
I wasn’t been a mean mom, I really didn’t know. I did know I wanted make something with hamburger and pasta in one pan under 30 minutes. We still have a four year old who naps and after church he is usually pretty tired. The faster I get lunch on the table the faster we eat. The faster we eat the faster he goes down for a nap. The faster he goes down for a nap the faster I get to sit on the couch and relax for a few minutes before the other three want my attention. (I stress: few.)
I enjoy coming up with recipes like this homemade chili mac because I have never been a fan of the boxed, prepackaged meals. I like the idea of how easy it is, but not how typically unhealthy they are. When I make my own, I know exactly what I put in it.
For this 30 minute homemade chili mac, use only one skillet. It is even easier if you already have hamburger fried up and ready to go in the freezer. I didn’t this time, but I had just bought hamburger and it was sitting in the fridge so cooking it up was pretty easy.
Simply add the chili beans, pasta, beef broth and you have a delicious homemade (and easy!) pasta dish.
- 1 box (1 lb) pasta noodles (any kind)
- 1 lb hamburger
- 1 4 oz can tomato sauce
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 can chili beans
- cheese (optional)
Cook the hamburger in a large skillet until fully cooked and no longer pink
Drain off grease
Return hamburger to pan and add 2 cups beef broth and pasta noodles
Cook until noodles have softened (5-6 minutes)
Add tomato sauce and beans
Cook (stirring occasionally) for another 5-7 minutes
Remove from heat and stir in cheese if you would like (I used about 1 cup)
