Chocolate and peanut butter combine to make these soft and delicious cookies!

Everyone loves a soft and gooey cookie recipe. Then, when you add in chocolate and peanut butter, well, that takes it to a whole new level. Chocolate Peanut Butter Cookies with chocolate chips does indeed take cookies to a whole new level.

A soft and gooey level. Delicious.

What makes these cookies so special?

The secret to these peanut butter cookies is the instant chocolate pudding mix. Pudding in cookies or cakes makes the end result soft. That is why brands are always proclaiming "pudding in the mix!"

Soft, gooey and chocolate. A great combo!

    Baking

To bake these cookies, you will want to use standard cookie sheets. You will also need cooling racks. Have you ever used waxed paper to cool cookies? That is certainly acceptable. I like using cookie sheets but whatever you have works.

Be sure to not let the cookies cool on the cookie sheets. They will continue to bake on there and the cookies might end up a little more done then you like.

    Storage

To store these cookies, just place them in an airtight container. You can also place them in a cookie jar. This retro cookie jar is so cute! Do you know the secret to refreshing hardened or stale cookies?

Put a piece of sliced bread in with it. Seriously!

The moisture from the bread transfers to the cookies and makes the cookies soft and the bread hard. It is a trick my mom taught me years ago. You can read more about using bread to soften cookies with this article.

    FAQ

Can I use any type of peanut butter for this recipe?

Yes you can. I use Kroger generic peanut butter mostly at our house but any kind of peanut butter will work.

Do the chocolate chips have to be semi-sweet?

No, you can use milk chocolate if you want. I think the semi-sweet is the better option, but you can certainly use either. You can also add in some peanut butter chips for more peanut butter taste.

Do I have to press the cookie down with a fork like I do with regular peanut butter cookies?

No, you don't. If the cookies aren't flattening to your liking, you can take a spatula and press them down about 6 minutes into the cooking. That is totally optional, just whether or not you want flatter cookies.

I made these cookies! Delicious. How can I mail them to someone? Can I put the batter in an airtight container, and they can bake it themselves? Can I send it fresh or freeze it first?

I would not send raw dough in the mail. There are eggs in the batter and the batter would go bad if not kept refrigerated.
If you want to send the baked cookies in the mail, be sure to pack them well so they won't break during shipping. I would also ask your local post office if they have any tips to help keep cookies from crumbling in the mail.
I'm so glad you enjoyed the recipe!
