    The Best Steak Marinade recipe is only a handful of ingredients but it adds such flavor to any type of steak. The blend of soy sauce with ginger is a fun pop of flavor you will appreciate. Whether you use a gas, charcoal or Blackstone Flattop Grill, this recipe works on them all!

    To marinade a piece of meat is so easy and adds the depth of flavor one enjoys. Whether marinading beef or marinading chicken, all of it will go great with any summertime BBQ.

    Ingredients

    • brown sugar - light brown sugar is preferred
    • soy sauce
    • white wine vinegar - white vinegar can be used
    • salt - sea salt
    • pepper
    • garlic powder
    • olive oil
    • water
    • ginger

    The ingredients are likely ones you have in your pantry (or fridge) already. When you blend them together, the perfect addition to your steak!

    What type of steak to use

    This marinade works well with any steak type. I personally used a round steak for this recipe, but a ribeye would work great as well. This marinade would also be great with kabobs!

    Marinading the steak

    Ideally, the steak would be placed in a plastic zipped bag and placed in the refrigerator. After all, the marinade would be able to surround the entire steak. The steak can also be placed in a small pan, then have the marinade poured over it. Place plastic wrap over the pan and place in the refrigerator for 8 hours or overnight.

    Safety Tip

    For safety, be sure to wash your hands and all utensils after touching raw meat. Also, don't reuse the marinade. Always throw it away after marinading the beef.

    Can I use this marinade for chicken?

    It should work great for chicken!

    Can I use a flattop grill for this?

    Yes! That is what cooked the steak in this recipe. A charcoal or gas grill would work well too.

    What are the cooking temperatures for steak?

    Rare - 120 degrees, Medium Rare - 130 degrees, Medium - 140 degrees, Medium Well - 150 degrees and Well Done - 160 degrees.

    Equipment

    • 1 small pan or zipped plastic bags
    • 1 grill

    Ingredients

    • ½ cup soy sauce
    • 2 Tablespoon brown sugar
    • 2 Tablespoon white wine vinegar can use regular vinegar
    • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
    • 2 Tablespoon olive oil
    • ¼ cup water
    • 1 teaspoon black pepper
    • 2 teaspoon sea salt
    • ½ tsp ginger

    Instructions

    • Whisk all ingredients together in a small bowl.
    • Place steak (thawed) in a zippered plastic bag or in a pan. Pour marinade over the top. Seal the bag or place plastic wrap over the pan.
    • Refrigerate 8 hours or overnight.
    • To cook steak, heat up grill or flattop. When warm, place steak on oiled or buttered grill. Discard remaining marinade.
    • Cook the steak for about 6 minutes per side, however be sure to follow internal temperature instructions for desired doneness.
    • Cook until desired doneness (see post above for cooking temperature based on rare, medium, well done, etc.).
    • When done, let steak rest for 10 minutes on a plate under a dome of foil.
    • Serve.

    Notes

    • The nutrition facts are for the whole of the marinade. Not all of it will soak into the steak. The steak is not listed in the nutrition facts. 
    • The desired doneness: rare, medium rare, medium, medium well and well will change the cooking times. More information in the post above.
