From muffins to pies, many recipes call for an easy Streusel Topping. Only four ingredients, this topping is perfect for pies, muffins, and coffeecake. There are many different ways to make a streusel topping, but this one is my favorite. Buttery, sugary and so crunchy and delicious!

This Easy Streusel Topping is a handy recipe to have around for the Holiday season. With brunches and family gatherings coming up, this recipe will certainly be an important one to have on hand. Having frostings like this cream cheese frosting and homemade sauces like this caramel sauce in your recipe box makes cooking a lot quicker during those busy times.
What makes this streusel recipe above the rest is the buttery flavor, the two types of sugar and how easy it is!
Jump to:
Ingredients
- flour - all purpose flour is the type of flour to use.
- sugar
- brown sugar
- butter - I really recommend real butter instead of margarine. It tends to hold its shape better.
Melting the butter
The butter is probably the most important step in making this streusel topping. A lot of recipes call for it to be soften. This recipe calls for it to be melted, but cooled when it is poured on the flour mixture.
The reason is the hot melted butter tends to have the streusel become more spread out instead of fluffy and crunchy. If you allow it to be cooled slightly, it will help hold the ingredients together without causing them to melt.
Don't overmix
When mixing the ingredients together, use a fork. Don't overmix because that will also cause the streusel to fall. Just mix it enough to produce the crumbs. It's all you need.

Freezing
If you make more streusel than you need, place the leftover streusel in a zipped freezer bag and label it. Then pull it out of the freezer for another recipe at another time. It will last up to three months in the freezer.
