    Ingredients

    • graham crackers - gluten free can be used. See below.
    • marshmallows - mini marshmallows
    • chocolate bars - Hershey is a good choice
    • butter - margarine can be used
Hershey bars, graham crackers and marshmallows.

    Gluten free options

Everything in this recipe is gluten free except for the graham crackers. Those crackers have gluten in them. There are gluten free graham crackers which I feel are quite good. One issue you may run into if you use them, is they are rather crumbly. So to counter that, you may want to use a little extra butter to help them stay together a little better.

    Layer the bars

The S'mores Dessert Bars are layered with the graham cracker on bottom and that will be baked first to help the graham crackers and butter stick together. The chocolate bars and marshmallows are next.

    Note

The amount of chocolate listed in this recipe will be perfect for a 8 or 9 inch square pan. I had caught a 13 year old boy in the chocolate right before I made these bars. I ended up with less chocolate to use.

    marshmallows on top of bars.

The marshmallows are arranged on top of the chocolate bars. If this is just for your family, feel free to dump the marshmallows on top of the chocolate. However, if you are trying to impress, the marshmallows should be arranged to form an even layer.

    Bake

The dessert bars will be baked at 350 degrees for 7 minutes to start with just the graham cracker crumbs. Then with the chocolate and marshmallows, 7 minutes longer. The marshmallows need to be browned, if desired, and brown nicely under the broiler for 3-4 minutes. Be sure to watch so the don't get overly brown. You will want to keep an eye on this and it does depend on your oven and broiler.

Enjoy this simple fall dessert recipe. Or, if it is 90 degrees outside and you are wanting the taste of cooler weather, enjoy it in the summertime!

    Equipment

    • 1 9 inch square baking dish

    Ingredients

    • 8 rectangles graham crackers
    • ⅓ cup butter melted, margarine can be used
    • 4 chocolate bars like Hershey's
    • 2 cups mini marshmallows enough to cover the top of the bars evenly

    Instructions

    • Preheat oven to 350℉.
    • Turn graham crackers into crumbs by placing in a food processor or in a zipped plastic bag and crushing. If using a food processor, add the butter after they are crumbs and pulse until the crumbs hold their shape when pressed together.
If using a plastic bag, place the crumbs in a bowl and mix in the melted butter. Stir.
    • Press on the bottom of the greased square baking dish.
    • Bake at 350 degrees for 7 minutes.
    • Remove from oven and place chocolate bars on top. Place marshmallows on top as well, in an even pattern.
    • Return to oven, and bake for 7 minutes.
    • Turn on broiler and broil for 4-5 minutes or until marshmallows are browning. Keep a careful watch over this process, you don't want to burn the marshmallows.
    • Remove from the oven and cool completely. Using a slightly greased knife, cut into squares and serve.

    Notes

To store the leftovers, they are best kept in an airtight container in the fridge.
