I love all things tacos. Tacos could be served weekly if not a couple nights a week and I would not mind a bit.
So when it was decided to make this easy salsa taco salad, I had a hard time deciding when to make it. Meaning, I probably could have made it for breakfast as much as I like tacos. Total truth.

Taco salad ingredients
- Ground beef
- Taco seasoning
- Green leaf lettuce
- Black beans
- Roma tomato
- Salsa
- Cheese Doritos
- Cheddar cheese
- Taco seasoning
This easy taco salad recipe has Doritos in it. Some may prefer to use tortilla chips, which are perfectly fine. However, I recommend the cheese Doritos as they add the cheese flavor and a depth to the salad.
The salsa is up to you. You can use store bought salsa or you can make a homemade salsa. Homemade salsa is delicious but there is plenty of store bought that are tasty as well. Here is a recipe for homemade salsa.
Mild, medium or hot salsa works for this salad. It is just your preferred taste.
Substitutions
If your children (or yourself) aren't a fan of black beans, you can trade out black beans for kidney beans. You can also add shredded cheddar or pepper jack cheese if desired.
I didn't add cheese to my salad because of the cheese Doritos. Either way it was, and would be, delicious.
The lettuce I used was green leaf lettuce, but you could substitute Romaine if you want.
Do you have ground venison? You could substitute ground venison for the ground beef.
Cooking the ground beef
Be sure to cook the ground beef completely through before adding it to the salad. Also, during the cooking process, the spices will be added.
The level of spice depends on you, just like with the salsa. Some like it hot, some like it not. Either way works.
Some tips
If you are taking this to a potluck or to a football party, you may want to use this container. It would snap shut and travel well. If you are serving it at home, any decorative bowl will do. (This wooden bowl is beautiful!) Simply mix up the ingredients and you have a taco salad.
If you are traveling far, you may want to mix the salsa in when you get there to keep everything fresh. Like you would with salad dressing for a regular salad.
