Ingredients
- flour - unbleached or bleached will work
- cornmeal - yellow or white
- sugar
- baking powder
- salt
- oil
- eggs
- milk - you can use half milk and half water if you would like to
Square baking pans
I like using a square baking pan with cornbread, however many prefer a round pan. Either work fine. The difference may appear in time of baking so be sure to adjust as necessary.
Alternatives
- Gluten free flour can be used in place of the all purpose flour.
- Almond milk can be used instead of regular milk.
- Canola oil will work instead of vegetable oil.
- Honey works very well in place of the sugar.
Additions
- Add cheddar cheese to the batter for cheesy cornbread.
- Add chopped green onions or chopped jalapenos for a little extra flavor.
- Want a little sweet? Melt some butter and brown sugar on top of the cornbread.
Bake/Storage
Bake at 425 degrees for 30 minutes or until tests done. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
