Blueberry Dumplings are sweet blueberries topped with a pillow of dough all cooked on the stovetop. Sound intriguing? Oh trust me, it will be worth your try. Serve with a dallop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream and the summer dessert is complete!

The soft dough like dumplings of the Blueberry Dumplings really sets off the sweet cinnamon covered blueberries. When blueberries are in season, blueberries are a favorite. This summer dessert recipe would be no different. My family loves blueberries and every summer we buy 40 pounds from a local farmer. We save and freeze the berries so we can enjoy all year. It is the way to go, let me tell you!
Blueberry recipes like Blueberry Buckle, Brown Sugar Blueberry Coffee Cake and Blueberry Cookies are good year around. Brown Sugar Blueberry Muffins are made for my children's sports teams. (All the time!)
Ingredients
- blueberries - fresh or frozen
- cinnamon
- flour - all purpose
- sugar
- baking powder
- salt
- vanilla
- milk - can use almond milk

The blueberries will be measured out straight into a pan with has a little depth to it. That is just so it is easier to stir and the blueberries won't fall out. The flour and cinnamon will be added to the blueberries and stirred in while the blueberries start to cook.
How the dumplings bake
This isn't a savory type of dumpling, instead it is almost like a cobbler type dumpling. I have made Peach Dumplings before, and the result is superb. I have also made caramel dumplings and will share the recipe soon! As with a cobbler type dumpling, it is important that the dough bakes all the way through. Using a lid on the pan while baking helps that.
Also, the blueberries will be cooked on the stove first, before the dumplings are added so the blueberries will be nice and soft and will have time to break down a bit before the blueberries are added.
How to add the dumplings
The dumplings will be made in a separate bowl while the blueberries cook for the first time.

The dumpling dough will then be dropped in spoonfuls on top of the cooking blueberries. The heat will help the dumplings to rise and bake and the result is a perfectly good blueberry dessert!

Yes, the sweet taste of blueberries with a light, pillowy dumpling on top makes for a great dessert. It is so simple to make too, your family will enjoy it!

- 1 frying pan with sides
- 1 1 inch ice cream or cookie scoop
Ingredients
- 5 cups blueberries fresh or frozen
- 2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon all purpose flour
- 1 ¼ cup all purpose flour
- ⅓ cup sugar
- 2 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ¾ cup milk can use almond milk
Instructions
- Place blueberries in a large frying pan that has sides on it. (A deep frying pan.)
- Sprinkle 1 tablespoon flour and cinnamon on top of the blueberries and stir.

- Meanwhile, mix together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, vanilla and milk in a medium mixing bowl until well blended.
