Homemade Trail Mix is a less costly version than store bought. Made with healthy, energy boasting ingredients, this trail mix is a great on the go snack that is perfect for #feedthefam.
I like trail mix. They are sweet and salty. They have chocolate and fruit. Really, what else do you need in a snack?
I don't really like paying for trail mix. Trail mix is costly and the bags are never that big. One day, as I was wondering the Aldi aisle, I saw the cashews and peanuts next to the bags of trail mix. Now, of course, being Aldi's, the trail mix prices weren't too high. However, they still weren't what I considered cost effective.
I am rather frugal.
Of course, in a homemade trail mix, I can add anything we like and forget the things we don't. Like the shredded coconut. Not a fan, not a fan.
Aldi's truly had everything we needed for our trail mix including dried pineapple and dried bananas. Now, when did Aldi's start carrying dried pineapple and dried bananas? Have I just completely missed it because the oatmeal is on the opposite side so my attention is elsewhere?
Maybe.
I made the homemade trail mix a few days ago and the family loved it. In fact, I had to put it away because I wanted to take it on our family fun day. The kids are going to school in few days and my husband took a day off so we could enjoy being together.
We enjoy going to this state park. It has many memories (my husband proposed there!) and we enjoyed taking our children. We walked hiked over four miles so Caleb's little legs probably thought it was like 10 miles. ;-)
We brought the homemade trail mix with us and it was a hit. The peanuts and raisins gave us energy and the chocolate chips added the perfect sweetness.
A canyon plus a waterfall. Beautiful! Don't mind us though, it was hot and humid!
If you make this trail mix, you will be saving money and be providing the perfect snack for your children. It would be great to take to school. {Though do check if peanuts are allowed in your classroom or not!}

Mmmmm sounds good! I basically make it the same way except we use M&Ms instead of the chocolate chips. I have some made for our trip later this month but I really like the idea of the dried pineapple and banana chips… Going to look for them at Aldi's and add them to my mix!

The kids loved the pineapple and banana chips. I didn't think they were that costly either. Hope you find them!
