We hear the stories, we see the news. However no one can really understand the sacrifice one makes when serving their country unless they have done it themselves.
The sacrifice the wives (or husbands) make waiting for every phone call. The anxious anticipation of news hoping to hear the voice of their loved one. The moms who send their 18 year old’s off on a bus out of their reach, out of their control knowing their child grew up in that moment.
Listening to the word “Hero” be thrown around to everyone and anyone who accomplishes what deems to be a great deed, but knowing deep in your heart your spouse, your child is the hero. Knowing your loved one walked past dead bodies, laid awake at night listening to bombs explode around them and had to shoot another person to save our country.
They are the hero’s. They are the nations great hero’s with little pay and little appreciation except when we see a blurb on the news. This nation is more caught up in our own little cares or latest exciting news stories to remember there are children across this country wishing they could tell their parent goodnight in person. Who are missing the hugs and kisses of mom or dad.
I’m sorry I don’t think of your sacrifices enough. Thank you. Thank you to the ones who risk their lives, who sacrifice their time so I can be safe.
Thank you to the children of these brave men and women for sacrificing their time with their parent so my children can be free and safe.
God bless you. Thank you Veterans: You are appreciated.
