She makes bed coverings for herself; her clothing is fine linen and purple.
Her clothing is the best. Fine linen was expensive. John MacArthur says:
“The efforts she makes to honor others are rewarded to her. These silk and purple garments are expensive evidences of the blessings returned to her by God’s grace.”~John MacArthur Study Bible NKJV
We aren’t to do great works in order to receive blessings. Yet the work we do can (if God chooses) bless us. It can bless us by relationships we may get from it. It can also bless us financially. We can be blessed by joy in knowing we served and helped others. Sometimes, I know, we get frustrated when we think our work is going unnoticed. We don’t want to be frustrated, but we are human after all. Those pesky feelings creep in then we get discouraged! Which, of course, can lead to bitterness, anger and a desire to not serve. Which is exactly what our adversary would want us to do.
Don’t do works for blessings. Serve others with a joyful and true heart. You will be blessed; you just may have to squint to see it. Squint hard. Once you see the little blessings the big blessings won’t matter as much. What can you do today to help someone? How can you serve others?
