How often do you have spaghetti night? And more importantly, how many times do you have leftover spaghetti sauce? Well, I made spaghetti the other day because I was home from church with Cade. He was sick, so since I had to be home anyway, I thought it would be a great time to make homemade spaghetti sauce.
Back in the day of no children, I could make a batch of homemade spaghetti sauce and we would get several meals out of it.
Not so much anymore. 😉
One meal with some leftover seems to be the case now. Now that we have four growing, hungry, spaghetti loving children. We didn’t have very hungry children this day, so we had two to three cups of spaghetti sauce left. As I enjoy trying new things, I thought I would make something different with the leftover sauce.
What Is Open Faced Cheesy Hamburger Sub
It was so simple. I just added 1 pound of hamburger to the spaghetti sauce and warmed it up. Then I had bought some sub rolls and Kaiser Rolls. I simply toasted the bread in the broiler, added the meat sauce then sprinkled the cheese on it. I then broiled it again.
Simple. Easy. Delicious.
It is a great (and inexpensive) way to use up those leftovers.
Open Faced Cheesy Hamburger Sub
- 2-3 cups spaghetti sauce
- 1 lb hamburger cooked and browned
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese
- 8 Kaiser Rolls Sub Rolls
- Combine spaghetti sauce and hamburger in a medium sauce pan and warm through
- Broil rolls for 2-3 minutes until lightly brown
- Place sauce/hamburger mixture on browned rolls and sprinkle with cheese
- Melt and brown cheese in the broiler for 2-3 minutes
